Outage Texting & Alerts

Report an Outage Via Text

Reporting Power Outages via Outage Alerts Text Message is Fast and Simple

First, make sure your cell phone number on file with us is current. There are 2 ways to add/update your phone number:

  • Log in to your online account and under Notifications > Manage Contacts, enter your current cell phone number (if you haven’t registered your online account yet, go to your online account to do so).
  • Call (800) 282-5064 to speak to a representative to request the phone number be added to your account.
  • This is a free service; there are no sign-up fees or costs, although normal text and/or data rates may apply to your cell phone.

Once your cell phone number is up to date, you can opt-in. Please allow 25 hours after adding your cell phone number to your account.

  • To join, simply text SCPOPTIN to 85700. A response will be generated confirming your service location. Confirm your location by texting back the appropriate response.
  • Now you’re ready! To report a power outage, simply text OUT to 85700 and follow the prompts.
  • For outage updates, just text STATUS.
  • When service is restored for all members impacted by the outage, you’ll receive a confirmation text that power has been restored.
  • For help with SMS, send the word HELP to 85700.
  • To opt-out, or stop the service, text STOP to 85700.
  • Message and data rates may apply. Messages will only be sent upon your request.

Please do not report your outage by email or through Facebook or other social media applications. These are not always staffed and your outage will not be logged.

During an outage, South Central Power will use text alerts to share general outage information rather than information related to a specific service address.

Depending on the size of the outage, South Central Power may also share information through:

  • Email
  • Website
  • Social media
  • Local radio and television stations
