Commercial & Industrial Lighting Guidelines

July 1, 2023 to June 17, 2024

The replacement of inefficient internal and external lighting at business-member facilities of South Central Power Company can be eligible for a rebate when program specifications are met. The purpose of the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Custom Lighting Program is to promote the value of replacing inefficient lighting and installing LED lighting in an existing facility.

This C&I custom lighting program for retrofits projects provides a rebate based upon the number of watts reduced when replacing old lighting with energy efficient lighting.

Replacing inefficient lighting, or installing efficient LED lighting in an existing facility, can help C&I member businesses save money, which can reinforce the importance of energy efficient lighting upgrades and the value of being a member of South Central Power Company.

  1. Specific Requirements
    1. This program is applicable for commercial and industrial business facilities only.
    2. PRE-APPROVAL of the project “prior to installation” is required.
  2. Eligibility for Rebate
    1. To qualify, lighting at the facility must be used a minimum of 1,800 hours per year.
    2. All projects must be a retrofit lighting installation at an existing facility. Program is not applicable for installation of additional lighting in an existing facility.
    3. Re-lamping of existing fixtures is allowable for rebate only if it includes a technology upgrade (e.g., incandescent lamp to CFL; fluorescent lighting to LED). Re-lamping to a lower wattage of the same general type of bulb is not applicable for this program.
    4. Existing equipment must be operational when pre-approval application is submitted. Existing equipment must be removed or permanently disconnected.
    5. Equipment must be installed at a commercial or industrial facility which receives its electric power from South Central Power Company.
    6. All equipment must be new. Used or rebuilt equipment is not eligible.
    7. All projects must comply with applicable federal, state and local laws and building codes.
  3. Conditions of Rebate
    1. Projects must be completed between July 1, 2023 and June 17, 2024. Projects installed prior to June 30, 2023 are not eligible.
    2. South Central Power Company will need to perform an on-site visit in order to confirm installation of project as submitted.
    3. All pre-approval applications must have complete information in order to be considered.
    4. Rebate is paid as a one-time, one-program offer and cannot be combined with other incentive payments or programs for additional funding of this project.
    5. Only one incentive will be granted for each facility per fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).
  4. CI. Rebate
    1. Rebate amount when replacing old lighting with energy efficient lighting is calculated at the rate of $1 per watt reduced based upon lamp wattages (not fixture wattages). Rebate may not exceed fifty percent (50%) of project cost (excluding labor), up to a total maximum amount of $25,000 per project.
    2. Rebate amount when installing LEDs for an existing facility is calculated at the rate of $1 per watt reduced, using industry benchmark for watts reduced. Rebate may not exceed fifty percent (50%) of project cost (excluding labor), up to a total maximum amount of $25,000 per project.
    3. Rebate Funding Process
      1. Pre-approval C&I Custom Lighting Rebate application is completed and submitted for approval. The application must be submitted as a PDF file via email to the Key Accounts department.
      2. Once approved, project work can begin.
      3. After lighting retrofit to an existing facility project is completed, South Central Power Company performs site visit to facility to verify installation of lighting as documented.
      4. Retrofit project cost includes lamps, fixtures, wiring and ballasts. For existing facility, project cost includes LED lamps, fixtures and ballasts. Labor and/or installation costs are not to be included as part of project cost submitted.
      5. South Central Power Company provides rebate for project to its participating member business only. No payments will be made to third-party vendors, contractors, installers, consultants, etc.
      6. South Central Power Company reserves the right to issue the rebate as a bill credit.
