The Water Heater program was created to reduce peak load on the electric system during times of extreme cold or extreme heat. During these times, a radio signal turns off the electric current to hot water tanks with the switches. Once the peaking condition has passed, the radio signal ends and current is restored.
Incentives
Participants in the program received a one-time bill credit of $15 on installation of the switch, then received a $1.25 bill credit for as long as the consumer has the switch in place. The switch was installed at no cost.
Enrollment
The Water Heater Program is ending as a bill credit as of Oct. 31, 2023. Call the Energy Services Team at 740-689-6196 if you want to enroll in the replacement savings program.
