Scholarship Rules and Guidelines

Applicant may apply for only ONE scholarship.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE:

  1. Applicants must be the child, grandchild or legal ward of a South Central Power member receiving service for the duration of the 2023-2024 academic year and reside in the home of the respective member within the cooperative’s service territory. Exception: Community scholarship applicants must only live within a county served by South Central Power Company.
  2. Applicants who receive “full-ride” scholarships (i.e., scholarships that cover the cost of tuition, room, board and books) to the schools of their choice are not eligible for scholarships from South Central Power Co. Foundation.
  3. Students may not be immediate family members of a South Central Power Company Foundation Board member. Immediate family members include son, daughter, or grandchildren.
  4. Application information must be confined to the official online application form.
  5. Applicants may submit documents by 11:59 PM on Feb. 1, 2024, electronically on the South Central Power website at https://www.southcentralpower.com/scpc-foundation/scholarships/. Questions? Contact the community development department at 800-282-5064.
  6. Applications are reviewed by and scholarships awarded by our Foundation Board of Directors.

Four Scholarship Categories

Applicant must select one application to apply for that best suits his or her academic or career path.  See details below.

  • Academic Scholarship
  • PURPOSE:
    • This scholarship is to award eligible high school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence in the classroom as well as involvement in school activities. The scholarship is to provide financial support to high school seniors who plan to pursue a 4-year degree at an accredited college, university, or post-secondary institution.
    • Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who have all basic credits for entering a college, university or a post-secondary institution and the intention to pursue a 4-year degree.
    • Applicants must have a current cumulative grade point average of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale.
    • Accepted applicants must attend an accredited college, university, or post-secondary institution.

 

  • Career-Technical Scholarship
  • PURPOSE:
    • This scholarship is to award eligible high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in a trade or vocational field. The scholarship is to provide financial support to high school seniors who plan to attend a trade school, technical school or community college and obtain an associate degree, diploma, or certificate.
    • Applicants must be graduating seniors who have all basic credits and plan to attend a vocation or career-technical school.
    • Applicants must have a current cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50 on a 4.0 scale.
    • Accepted applicants must attend an accredited vocational, career-technical school or community college.

 

  • Community Scholarship
  • PURPOSE:
    • This scholarship is to award eligible high school seniors who exemplify the cooperative principle “concern for community.” These students demonstrate strong community involvement and leadership skills through community and volunteer work and an ongoing commitment to community service. The scholarship is to provide financial support to high school seniors who plan to pursue a 4-year degree at an accredited college, university, or post-secondary institution.
    • Applicants must be graduating seniors who have all basic credits for entering a college, university or a post-secondary institution and the intention to pursue a 4-year degree.
    • Applicants must have a current cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.
    • Accepted applicants must attend an accredited college, university, or post-secondary institution.
    • The parents, grandparent or legal ward of the student must live in a county served by South Central Power.

 

  • Leadership
  • PURPOSE:
    • This scholarship is to award eligible high school seniors who have achieved success in and outside of the classroom. Students have accomplished this by one or more of the following criteria: Demonstrated strong school and/or community involvement, maintained employment, served as a leader among their peers and/or faced adversities. The scholarship is to provide financial support to high school seniors who plan to pursue a 4-year degree at an accredited college, university, or post-secondary institution.
    • Applicants must be graduating seniors who have all basic credits for entering a college, university or a post-secondary institution and the intention to pursue a 4-year degree.
    • Applicants must have a current cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.
    • Accepted applicants must attend an accredited college, university, or post-secondary institution.
